Family Practitioner Amanda Bramham, MD, looks forward to building relationships with patients of all ages and helping them achieve their best health possible.
“It’s a privilege to be able to sit down with people and listen to their concerns. Each person is unique, with different goals and ideas for their own healthcare and understanding those goals is one of the keys to providing effective healthcare,” Dr. Bramham said. She believes that being able to relate to people while treating them is an important part of providing quality care.
Dr. Bramham recently joined the medical staff at Family Medical Center in Mattoon. She comes to the community after completing a three-year family practice residency at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford this summer.
Growing up in the Chicago area, her earliest interest in medicine began in grade school when she was fascinated by books on childbirth. First passionate about pursuing obstetrics and women’s healthcare, she later discovered she wanted to serve people through all dimensions of healthcare.
Following high school, she received a degree in biology from Bradley University in Peoria. She worked as a certified nursing assistant during her undergraduate years, which she credits for helping her to become a better doctor. “Working one-on-one with people was invaluable,” she said. “They have taught me the most about becoming a doctor.”
After completing the MedPrep program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Dr. Bramham earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. “Learning at hospitals in the inner city of Detroit was a phenomenal experience,” she said. “I chose to work in the inner city so I could learn ways to help the people that were facing great hardships.” That’s where her interest shifted from women’s healthcare to family medicine. Mentored by a popular family practice doctor, “I was amazed by how well he related to his patients and how well he knew their families. He often cared for three and four generations of the same families, which gave him a better understanding of their healthcare needs,” she said.
Dr. Bramham also has extensive experience volunteering and organizing various outreach programs and educational seminars throughout the Detroit inner city through Wayne State’s Co-Curricular Fabric of Society program.
With a passion for helping people, Dr. Bramham is excited to begin her practice in a smaller community. She is committed to providing comprehensive healthcare, including care of chronic and acute illnesses, preventive care and health education services. Offering hope, health and healing, she is also open to sharing her faith with her patients.
